Microsoft has officially launched its India South Central cloud region in Hyderabad, marking the company’s largest datacenter investment in the country and expanding its network to four cloud regions across India. The new region joins Microsoft’s existing cloud infrastructure in Mumbai, Pune and Chennai, reinforcing its capacity to support the country’s growing demand for artificial intelligence and cloud computing services.
The Hyderabad cloud region is designed to provide businesses, developers and public sector organisations with greater computing capacity, lower latency and enhanced data residency options for AI-powered applications. Microsoft said the new infrastructure will help organisations accelerate digital transformation while supporting the increasing adoption of generative AI across industries.
The expansion is part of Microsoft’s broader investment strategy in India. Earlier, the company announced plans to invest US$3 billion over two years to expand its cloud and AI infrastructure, establish new datacenters and strengthen AI skilling initiatives across the country. Microsoft has also outlined a larger long-term commitment aimed at building one of its largest hyperscale cloud footprints globally in India.
According to the company, the Hyderabad facility will support organisations developing advanced AI workloads while providing secure and scalable cloud services for enterprises operating in regulated sectors. The infrastructure is expected to help businesses deploy AI solutions closer to users, improve application performance and meet local data compliance requirements.
Microsoft said the new region is intended to power what it describes as the next generation of “Frontier Firms”—organisations that integrate AI into core business operations to drive innovation, productivity and growth. The company believes stronger cloud infrastructure will enable Indian enterprises to accelerate AI adoption while supporting the country’s digital economy.
Early customers for the Hyderabad cloud region include Adani Group and HDFC Bank, reflecting growing enterprise demand for AI-ready cloud infrastructure. With the latest launch, Microsoft further strengthens its position as one of India’s largest cloud service providers amid rising competition in the country’s rapidly expanding AI market.
