India’s total foodgrain output is expected to reach a record 376.56 million tonnes in 2025–2026, the greatest amount ever recorded in the nation, according to the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare’s third advance estimates.
The projected output is a 5.3% increase over last year’s production of 357.73 million tonnes, or almost 18.8 million tonnes.
Wheat production is predicted to reach 120.65 million tonnes, while rice production is expected to reach a record of 154.02 million tonnes. Additionally, a record of 55.09 million tons of maize is anticipated to be produced.
The production of lentils is anticipated to be 1.76 million tonnes, while the production of grams is estimated to be 12.51 million tonnes. An estimated 43.05 million tons of oilseeds were produced overall, with record output of 13.76 million tonnes of rapeseed and mustard.
Strong growth was also seen in commercial crops, with sugarcane production reportedly reaching a record 500.06 million tons. 29.02 million bales of cotton are expected to be produced
The administration credited digital soil management, climate-smart farming, enhanced seed production, and sustainable agriculture technologies for the rise.
