Aurobindo Pharma has inaugurated TheraNym, a large-scale biologics contract manufacturing facility in Hyderabad, marking a significant step in the company’s expansion into the fast-growing biologics and contract development and manufacturing (CDMO) segment.

The new facility, operated by Aurobindo Pharma subsidiary TheraNym Biologics Private Limited, was formally inaugurated on June 3. The company described the project as one of India’s largest dedicated biologics contract manufacturing facilities, aimed at serving global pharmaceutical and biotechnology customers.

Located in Borapatla near Hyderabad, the facility has been established with an investment of around ₹1,000 crore and currently offers 25,000 litres of mammalian cell culture bioreactor capacity. The site includes bioreactors, downstream processing infrastructure, aseptic fill-finish capabilities and quality-control laboratories designed to support biologics manufacturing requirements.

A key development associated with the project is the participation of global healthcare company MSD, which has been identified as the anchor customer for the facility. The partnership is expected to support biologics manufacturing activities for regulated markets and strengthen TheraNym’s position in the international biologics supply chain.

The inauguration was attended by Telangana ministers D. Sridhar Babu and Damodar Raja Narasimha. Ahead of the launch, senior executives from Aurobindo Pharma and MSD met Telangana Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy to discuss the project and acknowledge the state’s support for biotechnology and pharmaceutical investments.

TheraNym forms part of Aurobindo Pharma’s broader strategy to build a biologics-focused manufacturing platform. The company has also signed additional agreements with MSD for future expansion, including plans for a second manufacturing unit featuring 60,000 litres of mammalian cell culture capacity.

Industry observers view the facility as an important addition to India’s biologics manufacturing ecosystem, reflecting increasing investment in advanced pharmaceutical production capabilities and contract manufacturing services for global markets.
