To meet the increasing demand for its Claude artificial intelligence platform, AI firm Anthropic has inked a significant computing deal with SpaceX. Anthropic will have access to over 300 megawatts of processing power from SpaceX’s Colossus 1 data center in Memphis as part of the agreement.

Anthropic’s infrastructure capabilities should be greatly enhanced by the alliance, allowing the business to scale AI services and set usage limitations in the face of a sharp spike in enterprise adoption. The company saw “80x growth” in annualized revenue and usage during the first quarter of the year, according to CEO Dario Amodei.

The arrangement also draws attention to the fiercely competitive competition for AI infrastructure, as big businesses look for massive processing capacity to develop and run cutting-edge AI systems. SpaceX and Anthropic are working together on infrastructure development, including possible future orbital AI computer projects, despite their competition in the AI space.

Elon Musk, meanwhile, declared that xAI would be incorporated into “SpaceXAI,” indicating a more extensive reorganization of Musk’s space technology and artificial intelligence businesses.
