Swiggy to Enable Food and Grocery Orders Using Chat GPT and Other AI Platforms

Swiggy has announced that consumers can now use well-known artificial intelligence systems like ChatGPT, Claude, and Google Gemini to order food, shop for groceries, and make bookings for meals. By enabling customers to execute end-to-end transactions through AI-driven interfaces without visiting various app panels, the move represents a significant advancement in conversational commerce. Only cash on delivery (COD) is currently available for orders placed using AI techniques.

AI agents may manage intricate workflows on behalf of people thanks to this integration. For instance, the AI can browse Swiggy’s catalogue, compare products, create and update carts, apply pertinent deals, verify delivery details, make the order, and monitor its status when it receives a request like “order ingredients for Hyderabadi biryani.” The goal of the experience is to improve the personalization and intuitiveness of on-demand services.

Conversational commerce improves convenience by enabling customers to convey purpose naturally, according to Madhusudhan Rao, Chief Technology Officer of Swiggy, who commented on the breakthrough. He went on to say that the strategy fits with Swiggy’s emphasis on streamlining daily consumption, whether it’s purchasing snacks for a get-together or reserving a seat at a restaurant.

The initiative comes after comparable sector experimentation. BigBasket, a company owned by Tata, tested grocery ordering on ChatGPT last year, allowing users to finish purchases with UPI payments. In the case of BigBasket, AI agents access the company’s product catalog and use Razorpay’s infrastructure to process payments utilizing UPI Reserve Pay, which holds money until an order is completed.

Model Context Protocol (MCP) interfaces on all of Swiggy’s platforms—including Instamart, Dineout, and Swiggy Food—power the company’s launch. AI agents can easily communicate with application programming interfaces (APIs) thanks to MCP’s standardized interface. This makes it possible for AI tools to carry out user-initiated actions directly across Swiggy’s services and lessens the need for proprietary integrations.
