India’s First AI-Powered Air Taxi Showcased, Promises 8-Minute Airport-to-City Commutes

India’s first AI-powered air taxi was introduced at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, bringing the country one step closer to urban air mobility. The E Plane Company and IIT Madras collaborated to develop the electric vertical take-off and landing (e-VTOL) aircraft.

Due to its ability to take off and land vertically without a runway, the three-seater e-VTOL is well suited for dense urban settings. A 36-kilometer flight from Kempegowda International Airport to UB City, which may take up to two hours by road, could be finished in eight minutes by air, according to the business, for an estimated ₹1,700.

The aircraft can make several stops on a single charge, is entirely electric, and makes a lot less noise than helicopters. The majority of the airframe and equipment are made in India, according to founder Vikkalp Mittal.

In key Indian cities, the business intends to launch commercial air taxi operations after initially launching air ambulance services in 2027.
