New Delhi, India: IndiaAI and the Ministry of AYUSH have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the use of artificial intelligence in India’s traditional healthcare ecosystem by integrating AYUSH research assets with AIKosh, the country’s sovereign AI repository.
The partnership, announced by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), is aimed at accelerating AI-driven research and innovation while expanding access to authenticated AYUSH health research resources for researchers, startups and academic institutions.
The agreement was signed by Sudeep Srivastava, Chief Operating Officer of the IndiaAI Mission and Joint Secretary at MeitY, and Kavita Jain, Joint Secretary and Chief Vigilance Officer in the Ministry of AYUSH, in the presence of senior officials from both ministries.
As part of the collaboration, the Ministry of AYUSH will contribute eligible anonymised health research artefacts to AIKosh. These include datasets, metadata, AI models, toolkits and relevant use cases that can support the development of artificial intelligence applications aligned with national priorities while complying with applicable data-sharing policies and regulatory requirements.
The initiative will also allow eligible stakeholders from the AYUSH ecosystem to access India’s AI computing infrastructure through the IndiaAI Compute platform. According to the ministries, this will support advanced AI research and encourage the development of scalable healthcare technologies based on traditional medicine.
Officials said the collaboration is expected to strengthen AIKosh by expanding its repository with AYUSH-related research resources, enabling researchers and practitioners to combine modern AI capabilities with India’s traditional medical knowledge. The partnership is also intended to promote evidence-based research, improve knowledge management and encourage innovation across areas such as medicinal plants, drug administration, research and capacity building.
The memorandum will remain valid for an initial period of two years and includes a provision for automatic renewal through mutual agreement. The release clarified that the arrangement does not involve any financial commitment or liability for either organisation.
The collaboration marks another step in the government’s efforts to integrate artificial intelligence into public-sector research while promoting responsible, secure and inclusive digital innovation across India’s healthcare ecosystem.
