India in Talks for Six FTAs to Expand Global Trade Partnerships

In an effort to increase exports, draw in investment, and fortify economic relations, India is presently negotiating six Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with important international partners.

Agreements with Australia, Sri Lanka, Peru, Chile, Israel, and the Eurasian Economic Union are among the continuing negotiations, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

While negotiations for the Economic and Technology Cooperation Agreement (ETCA) with Sri Lanka have been going on since 2015, discussions for the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) between Australia and India started in 2023. Conversations with Chile (started in 2025) and Peru (started in 2017) are also moving forward steadily.

India has began free trade agreement talks with Israel and the Eurasian Economic Union, with the first rounds taking place in late 2025 and early 2026, respectively.

These agreements seek to lower tariffs, increase market access, and encourage cross-sector technology sharing. The action is part of India’s larger plan to broaden trade relationships with both developed and emerging economies and strengthen integration with international markets.
