An important step in its localization strategy has been taken by Chinese consumer electronics and home appliance giant Hisense, which opened its first production facility in India in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh.
Under the Hisense–Epack Durable joint venture, Epack Manufacturing Technologies Private Limited, a fully owned subsidiary of Epack Durable Limited, developed the plant. The plant, which is situated in the industrial park of Epack Durable and spans 10 acres, was established with an expenditure of more than $30 million (about ₹272 crore).
Room air conditioners are the primary focus of the first phase of pilot production, which is presently under way. After it is fully operational, the factory, which has an initial installed capacity of 7.5 lakh units, will only make room air conditioners for Hisense India, making up all of the company’s domestic output in this category.
In later stages, the factory will produce LED televisions in the third quarter of FY 2026–2027 after expanding into top-load and front-load washing machines in the second quarter.
The plant currently employs around 500 people and is expected to generate nearly 1,500 jobs over the next 12–24 months. Hisense said the project aligns with the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative and will enhance quality control, supply chain efficiency and product customisation for Indian consumers.
