Google Brings Gemini Voice Assistant to Maps for Walkers and Cyclists

Google has added hands-free, voice-activated features to its Gemini artificial intelligence assistant to enable walking and bicycling navigation in Google Maps, making travel safer and more engaging. On iOS and Android smartphones with Gemini installed, the update is being released internationally.

Users can now explore, ask questions, and accomplish basic tasks using Gemini without ever touching their phones thanks to the new connection. The assistant can serve as a virtual tour guide for pedestrians, responding to inquiries about local neighborhoods, monuments, and attractions. Using Google Maps’ real-time data and reviews, users may also ask for recommendations for eateries, coffee shops, and other locations along their path.

Similar hands-free features that prioritize convenience and safety are advantageous to cyclists. Keeping their hands on the handlebars, riders can check their schedules, send brief audio messages, or request projected arrival timings. According to Google, this lessens distractions and keeps users’ attention on the road.

The feature expands Gemini’s conversational help outside automobiles, building on its previous release in driving navigation. In a social media post, Google Senior Vice President of Knowledge and Information Nick Fox called the tool a “neighbourhood tour guide.”

According to Google, the walking and cycling features are now available on compatible smartphones all across the world.
