Bluesky, a decentralized social media platform, has announced a number of product updates for 2026, with an emphasis on enhancing live interactions, content discovery, and essential posting functions. According to the firm, improving current tools and enhancing characteristics that set it apart from conventional social networks would be the main priorities of its next development phase.
Live and real-time conversations will be a major focus. By providing improved curation tools and experimenting with new ways for users to interact during live events, Bluesky intends to increase the visibility and functionality of custom feeds. Additionally, the platform is testing features that will make the app feel “more live,” especially during significant real-world events. Trending subjects and community-led conversations in a variety of fields, including science, sports, and other interests, are currently supported via custom feeds.
Additionally, Bluesky plans to implement a number of improvements to its posting features. Draft support, longer and faster video uploads, more photo uploads per post, and easier thread creation are among the planned enhancements.
Regarding discovery, the business wants to enhance its recommendation algorithms, which will include upgrades to the Discover feed and improvements to “who to follow” recommendations. To make it simpler for users to locate information based on their interests and follow existing discussions, Bluesky is also experimenting with subject tags.
Additionally, Bluesky will enhance its connections with third-party “Atmosphere” apps by adding new tools for posts and profiles that more easily connect activity between apps.
