Anthropic Unveils Claude AI Feature to Perform Tasks Directly on Users’ Computers

Anthropic has introduced a new feature that enables its AI chatbot, Claude, to conduct activities directly on a user’s computer, indicating a shift toward more action-oriented artificial intelligence.

The capability allows Claude to perform tasks beyond text responses, such as retrieving files, navigating the web, and using developer tools. The feature, which is now accessible as a research preview for Claude Pro and Max subscribers, is only compatible with macOS devices.

The update expands on existing capabilities such as Claude Code and Claude Cowork, allowing the AI to communicate with connected services like Google Workspace and Slack. In the absence of direct integrations, Claude can replicate keyboard and mouse operations to execute tasks by hand.

The launch underscores the growing interest in agentic AI—systems that operate autonomously. However, Anthropic has stressed safety, stating that Claude would ask for user permission before completing tasks and incorporates precautions against risks such as prompt injection.

Despite these safeguards, the business advises against utilizing the function with sensitive data and notes that it is still in its early stages. The deployment is intended to gather customer feedback while improving performance and security.
