Apraava Energy has acquired Raigad Power Transmission Limited to develop an intrastate power transmission project covering Maharashtra’s Pune and Raigad districts. The project was awarded through the Government of India’s tariff-based competitive bidding process, marking Apraava’s first transmission asset in Maharashtra.
The project involves approximately 400 circuit kilometres of transmission lines, including around 340 circuit kilometres of 765 kV lines, with the remainder comprising 400 kV and 220 kV double-circuit lines. It will also include a 4,500 MVA pooling station configured with three 1,500 MVA units at 765/400/220 kV.
According to the company, the infrastructure will support power evacuation from potential pumped storage plants in Raigad district. The transmission network is expected to facilitate the evacuation of about 3 GW of power from such projects while supporting grid reliability in the region.
The project will be developed under the Build, Own, Operate and Transfer model. Apraava will provide transmission services for a 35-year concession period after commissioning. Construction is scheduled to be completed within 24 months of signing the Transmission Service Agreement. The project is also expected to generate direct and indirect employment during construction and operations.
Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, Managing Director of Apraava Energy, said the project would contribute to strengthening Maharashtra’s transmission network and support the integration of renewable energy. He also noted the company’s longstanding presence in the state, where it entered the renewable energy sector with its first wind project in 2006.
Apraava currently operates three transmission assets with about 1,000 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and 3,500 MVA of substation capacity. With the Maharashtra project, the company said it now has five greenfield transmission projects under construction, which together are expected to add approximately 1,580 circuit kilometres of lines and 18,000 MVA of substation capacity.
