China’s Export Curbs Raise Concerns for India Electronics Sector

Following China’s implementation of more stringent supply chain control measures, which could interrupt the supply of machinery and components essential for India’s industrial boom, Indian electronics producers are confronting increasing uncertainty.

China’s new State Council Decrees 834 and 835, according to industry executives, place more stringent restrictions on the export of industrial equipment, including CNC machines and sophisticated manufacturing tools used in industries like electronics, telecom, and semiconductors.

Manufacturers worry that the limitations could affect government-backed programs meant to boost local electronics manufacture and postpone plans for plant expansion. According to reports, businesses have contacted the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to ask for assistance and clarification over the new regulations.

According to executives, shipment certifications can take up to 45 days, and Chinese suppliers are increasingly requiring a lot of paperwork and approvals. Due to their reliance on Chinese machinery and components, major manufacturers like Foxconn and Tata Electronics may potentially experience supply interruptions.

Industry leaders cautioned that despite regulatory incentives and localization initiatives, India’s aspirations to manufacture electronics could be hampered if access to essential equipment is still restricted.
