India to Lead the World in Micro-LED Display Technology

Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated at the CII Annual Business Summit 2026 that India is getting ready to become a major worldwide hub for micro-LED display technology, with commercial production of cutting-edge micro-LED panels anticipated to start within the next 22 months.

The minister stated that two semiconductor facilities are currently in commercial production, highlighting the quick growth of India’s semiconductor ecosystem. A fourth plant might start up before the end of the year, while a third is anticipated to start up in July.

Micro-LED, which may be used in huge public display systems, cellphones, and televisions, represents the future of display technology, according to Vaishnaw. He pointed out that the technology might become internationally competitive if screen components are reduced from 150 microns to around 50 microns.

He claimed that in order to boost domestic production, generate employment, and lessen reliance on imports, India is strategically establishing itself early in the industry.

The minister also said that during the previous fiscal year, smartphones emerged as India’s top export category, indicating the growing significance of electronics production in the nation’s export economy.
