Adani Wind Installs India’s Largest 5 MW Wind Turbine

An important step in India’s shift to high-capacity renewable energy technology has been taken with the commissioning of a 5 MW wind turbine prototype by Adani Wind at Mundra. The turbine is among the biggest in the nation, with a rotor diameter of 185 meters and blades of 91.2 meters.

The turbine, which is intended for low to medium wind speeds, is anticipated to maximize land utilization and improve energy generating efficiency—two important goals for India’s growing wind industry. The action is in line with the nation’s drive to install bigger turbines that can produce more electricity per installation.

India is now ranked fourth in the world’s wind energy market in terms of cumulative installed capacity, according to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. It is anticipated that the new turbine will soon be certified under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM).

The initiative, which was created in association with WindtoEnergy, a German company, also represents Adani Wind’s intentions to increase production capacity and penetrate international markets.
